Progress

Smiths Point has been years in the making.

First conceived and documented in the late 1980s, The Leeuwin Naturalist Ridge Statement of Planning Policy, identifying Smiths Point as a “tourist node”, was published in 1998.

In response, Canal Rocks Pty Ltd submitted a draft guide development plan to the Shire of Busselton in 2000.

After a period of extensive planning and consultation, the project has progressed to the point where today:

  • The “Development Guide Plan” has been endorsed by both the Shire of Busselton and the Western Australian Planning Commission.
  • Environmental approval has been given by the Minister for the Environment in Western Australia and The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Pollution and Communities, federally.
  • Final Western Australian Planning Commission ‘Subdivision Approval’ is progressing.
